Tour of Bakar BioEnginuity Hub

Join BDA for a special tour of the Bakar BioEnginuity Hub. The building was designed by Mario Ciampi and built in 1970. Previously occupied by the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archives, it was declared seismically unfit in 2001. Renamed Woo Hon Fai Hall, the building sat vacant for many years. In 2018, a group of UC Berkeley alumni came together to envision a bioscience incubator in the building. Following a seismic retrofit, interior rehab, and landscape improvements, the building reopened in 2021 with 40,000 square feet of lab and research space that can support up to 80 early-stage entrepreneurs.
